MEMORABLE DAY: Wing Commander Richard Pattle of the British Air Force receiving his parchment from the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Lt. General (Retired) S.K. Sinha, at Wellington, near Udhagamandalam, on Friday.
Udhagamandalam: The curtain came down on the 62nd Staff Course of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) at Wellington near here on Friday. In all, 430 officer students qualified for the award of the degree MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies given by Madras University. Among them, many were from friendly countries such as the United Kingdom. The DSSC is one of the premier military institutions in the country that annually churns out about 450 officers of the three services after training them for Command and Staff functions. The course lasts about 45 weeks. It usually commences during the third or fourth week of June and concludes in the last week of April. The selection of the officers for the course is based on a stringent competitive examination and an objective analysis and assessment of their career profiles. The Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Lt. General (Retired) S.K. Sinha distributed the parchments to the officers. The Commandant, DSSC, Lt. General B.J. Gupta welcomed the gathering.
