Shivaranjini M. Bolishetti
BIJAPUR: Shivaranjini M. Bolishetti, a student of PDJ High School, Bijapur, has scored 98.24 per cent in SSLC examination standing first in the north Karnataka region. She secured 614 marks out of 625, which is the highest a student from the district has secured so far. For this year, it is the highest marks for any student in north Karnataka region, according to sources in the Department of Education. While securing 99 marks each in English and Kannada language papers, she got 124 (out of 125) marks in the second language Sanskrit paper. She secured 98, 97 and 97 marks in mathematics, science and social studies subjects, respectively. She wants to study PU science in a Mangalore college, and pursue engineering course afterwards. She told The Hindu that she would like to become an IAS officer after graduation in engineering. By securing 612 marks (97.92 per cent), Krishna Ankalagi of V.B. Darbar High School stood second in the district. Anusha Reddy of the same institution scored 603 marks that fetched her third place. Sonali Huyilgol, Vikram Hosmani and Prashant Yadahalli, all from PDJ institution, secured 602 (96.32 per cent), 600 (96 per cent) and 600 marks (96 per cent), respectively. However, the district ranks 26th from the third position it had last year. Of the 23,391 students who appeared for the examination, 16,078 (68.73 per cent) have passed. There are 9,395 boys and 6,683 girls among the successful candidates.
Bagalkot
However, in neighbouring Bagalkot district, students fared well with 75.3 of them being successful. Prasad N.S. of St. Anne High School stood first in the district with 96.48 per cent marks. Shri Basaveshwara Vidyavardhaka Sangha High School retained its dominance with 96 per cent of its students getting through. Tejaswini Deshpande of the school secured 600 marks.
