IIMB publishes list of 330 candidates

Staff Reporter

Candidates belonging to OBCs clubbed with general merit

BANGALORE: Ending confusion, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) on Friday published the first list of 330 candidates short-listed for an intake of 240 (without OBC quota) for admission to its Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management. The OBC quota issue had generated a lot of heat in Parliament on Thursday before the United Progressive Alliance members and the Left parties accepted Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh's two-list formula for IIM admissions.

Call letters were being despatched to all the 330 candidates who belonged to General Merit, SC/ST and Physically Disabled categories. Among the candidates were even those from OBC categories but clubbed under General Merit. The admission list was published on IIMB website (www.iimb.ernet.in) by Friday evening. The website had crashed in the morning when several thousands of IIMB aspirants logged in to check their fate.

The candidates who figure in the first list will have time till May 14 to accept the IIMB offer letters.

But if there is a shortfall (if less than 240 candidates accept the offers), an additional list will be put up. Students get multiple offers from the six IIMs and shortfalls could happen, a top IIMB official in-charge of PGP admissions told The Hindu .

If the Supreme Court gives its verdict in favour of the OBC quota after hearing the Government's petition on May 8, IIMB will release an additional list to include 30 more candidates.

The institute recently increased its PGP intake from 240 to 270 to accommodate the OBC quota.
