KOLKATA: Defending champion Tamil Nadu boys and Haryana girls made it to the semifinals of the 29th sub-junior National volleyball championship at the WBVA courts here on Friday. TN, overcame a stiff resistance from Andhra Pradesh in the first set but found it rather easy in the next two to win 3-0. TN will take on West Bengal while in the other last four match Karnataka, a creditable winner over Jammu & Kashmir, will play Uttar Pradesh. J&K qualified for the quarterfinals ahead of Nagaland after West Bengal defeated the Northeasten state in the final group league match in group D. Karnataka girls too found the going tough against Haryana and went down fighting. TN girls, who topped the group D, will challenge Haryana in the semifinals after outplaying Maharashtra 3-0. In the other semifinal, West Bengal will take on Kerala, which was hard pressed to subdue Uttar Pradesh.
The results: Quarterfinals: boys: TN bt AP 34-32, 25-14, 25-13; WB bt Manipur 25-18, 31-29, 25-23; UP bt Haryana 25-21, 25-20, 25-16; Karnataka bt J & K 25-18, 25-12, 25-11.
