VIJAYAWADA: Goddess Kanaka Durga temple atop Indrakeeladri witnessed an unusual rush of pilgrims on Friday. Hundreds of devotees thronged the temple from the morning. While marriage parties formed a major part of the crowds, others too visited the temple, as Friday is considered auspicious. From the vehicle-parking place to shops selling `puja' items and ticket counters on the temple premises, people queued up everywhere. Buses operated by the temple authorities from railway station and bus station to ferry the devotees free of cost to the temple and back were overcrowded with them. There was a mad scramble to get into the buses, and more number of trips than usual had to be organised.
Long wait
The devotees had to wait longer in the queue, as many newly wedded couple opted for a special darshan. The police had a tough time to regulate vehicular traffic at the entrance of Indrakeeladri, as vehicles going towards the temple occupied the narrow road. Vehicles entering the city from Ibrahimpatnam side were diverted towards Kummaripalem Centre for a couple of hours to avoid congestion at the entrance. Additional forces were deployed to regulate the traffic.
