Kaithoon: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday dedicated her UN ``International Women Together Award'' to the weavers and spinners here and said her Government was determined to uplift the Kota Doria weaving and spinning community. Laying the foundation stone of ``Community facility centre'' at a state-level weavers' conference here, Raje said, ``I could have directly gone to receive the award even without meeting the people who are behind the success. I am here to congratulate you as you deserve the award that I would be receiving on your behalf next month.'' She also criticised the previous Congress government, saying that it did not take proper initiatives to uplift the weaving and spinning work especially in Khatoon. Remembering her controversial ramp walk in Jaipur and Bangalore, Raje said, ``People had asked me to wear a Kota Doria Khadi Saree and I did that. But the media had blown the whole issue out of proportion. Whatever I did was to make weavers and spinners of Rajasthan independent and to get international acclaim for this work.'' Raje also felicitated the Kota Doria weavers and distributed cheques of Rs. 4 lakh to the weavers' association. Talking about the utility of the community centre, Raje said, `` This would enable you to get updated with the latest designs and technologies and would help you to market your product well.'' ` `There is a desperate need to improve the marketing of the Kota Doria and development of clusters of handloom crafts,'' she said. Raje inaugurated the ``Kota Doria Saree Centre'' and also laid the foundation stone of Kishanpura Lift Irrigation Scheme. - PTI
