Institutes of design, film to come up

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government on Friday decided to set up a State Institute of Design and Fashion Technology, State Institute of Fine Arts, State Institute of Film and Television and State Institute of Professional Studies for Women at Rohtak. The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. It was also decided to give the status of an autonomous institute to the YMCA Institute of Engineering, Faridabad, and transfer Panniwala Mota Engineering College, Sirsa, to Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa.

Mr. Hooda said it was imperative to set up such institutes because of non-availability of training facilities in these areas and availability of tremendous opportunities for employment in the State. These would be set up as autonomous institutes on the pattern of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, National Institute of Film and TV, Pune and Government College of Art, Chandigarh. These institutes would be out of the ambit of the All India Council for Technical Education and university system and competent to award degree or diploma.

Seats for weaker sections

It was decided that 20 per cent of the seats would be reserved for students belonging to weaker sections of society in Haryana, 30 per cent for open candidates of the State, 35 per cent for all-India category and 15 per cent for NRIs or NRI-sponsored with a variable fee structure.
