Pension was denied on `flimsy grounds' M. Satyanarayana was denied pension on 'filmsy grounds'

HYDERABAD:
The Cabinet on Friday resolved a 26-year-old litigation and gave solace to a watchman.
The case was "too insignificant to be taken up at Cabinet level" but Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy discussed it at length with Ministers to highlight how some "indifferent officials" delay and deny justice to people.
The case relates to M. Satyanarayana who worked as a work-charged watchman in Roads & Buildings Department in Guntur district retired from service 26 years ago. Officials concerned circulated a file since then, denying pension and other terminal benefits to him on the "flimsy ground" that he had gone on a long leave once during the service. Mr Satyanarayana approached the High Court and the Administrative Tribunal but officials continued the litigation.
Immediate disbursal
The Chief Minister resolved the issue, ordering immediate disbursal of the amounts due to Mr Satyanaryana, now aged 84 and financially broke. Information Minister A. Ramanarayana Reddy said the Chief Minister had cited the case as a classic example of the insensitivity of some officials. He asked the Chief Secretary to identity the officials responsible for the unnecessary litigation and list all such other cases pending with the Government for disposal.
