HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday directed the AP Transco officials to ensure that there was no power cut for domestic and industrial sectors. Reviewing the power situation with Energy Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir and senior officials, he told them that the summer had become severe and there should be no load-shedding under any circumstances. The Government had already released Rs.1,250 crores to purchase power from the private sector and other States. This was in addition to the subsidy of Rs.1,350 crores given last year. Dr. Reddy said that funds were not a problem. The Government was ready to sanction whatever amount required to buy power to meet the demand, a press release from the Chief Minister's Office stated.
Rabi season
Officials informed the Chief Minister that seven hours of power was supplied to the farm sector in the rabi season and crop was protected in spite of unprecedented demand. The peak consumption of 185 mu a day was also met. Following Dr. Reddy's instructions, AP Transco has chalked out an action plan to meet the power demand of all sectors for 2007-08 and 2008-09. With regard to wind power, land would be allotted in the identified areas to companies which bid the lowest. On rural electrification, the Chief Minister was informed that AP Transco had spent more than Rs.180 crores though it had received only Rs.92 crores.
