MYSORE: A four-member delegation led by Sri Lankan Higher Education Minister Gamage visited the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) here on Friday to study the implementation of vocational education courses in engineering technology. The delegation is looking forward to replicate the system in technical education colleges in Sri Lanka. Director General of Technical Education in Sri Lanka H.L. Obeysekara, who is part of the delegation, told presspersons that Sri Lanka had 39 engineering colleges. "We are planning to introduce a three-year vocational course in industrial training after 10 plus 2. This will make easy the task of students to secure jobs and check unemployment in the country," he said. He said Sri Lanka was also planning to start courses in information technology shortly. The delegation plans to meet Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore J. Shashidhar Prasad on Saturday. The delegation included Chairman of Spectrum Human Capital Development Jay Kulasingham and Ms. Gamage, wife of Sri Lanka's Higher Education Minister. The delegation was received by institute president M.A. Sampath Iyengar, principal G. Raghavendra Rao and honorary secretary Sreepada Rao.
