MYSORE: As the results of SSLC examination are out, the rush at pre-university colleges across the city for admissions is swelling on every passing day. Long queues were seen in front of several prominent colleges here for applications for admission to PU courses. Thanks to the early announcement of SSLC results compared to the previous year, the process of PU admission has begun well in advance. Colleges had started distributing applications the day after SSLC results were announced. Parents and guardians were anxious whether their wards would get admission in the college of their choice. Some colleges had issued applications three days before the SSLC results were announced. The rush was predominant around private colleges such as Sadvidya, Marimallappa's and Mahajana's. Though sources in the PU colleges say that admissions have commenced even before a formal directive from the PU Board, some colleges are issuing applications without mentioning the last date for submitting them for admission. Sources said the board was likely to intimate the colleges in a couple of days. Meanwhile, a committee is likely to be constituted to check donation menace in private PU colleges here. The committee comprising officials of the departments of PU Education, Collegiate Education and Public Instruction is likely to be constituted soon. Colleges were supposed to disclose on their notice boards the number of seats available for admission, reservation of seats and the fee structure to facilitate parents and their wards in the admission process, the sources said.
Visits
The committee members will be visiting the colleges to check whether the norms stipulated by the department had been met. The committee can recommend action against the institutions that violate the norms. The office of the Deputy Director of PU Board is likely to convene a meeting of principals of all PU colleges to discuss admissions.
