Contact seminar classes

MADURAI: Contact seminar classes of Directorate of Distance Education, Madurai Kamaraj University, will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday (April 28 and 29) for undergraduate students and first year postgraduate students at The Coronation Girls Higher Secondary School, Sivakasi, MK University Evening College, Nagal Nagar, Dindigul, and Nadar Saraswathi Primary School, Theni.

Electricity Board's surprise inspection

Tamil Nadu Electricity Board conducted a surprise check last week in Sindhupatti section of Usilampatti division distribution area. One consumer was found violating the prescribed TNEB norms and was imposed a fine of Rs.250.

The violation came to light when a 19-member team of engineers, led by K. Thangaraj, Executive Engineer, General, Madurai Distribution Circle, checked 1,223 electricity connections, according to a TNEB press release.

Special buses for entrance examination

The SACS M.A.V.M.M. Engineering College, the venue for All India Engineering Entrance Examination 2007 to be conducted on Sunday (April 29), will ply its buses for the benefit of candidates.

The buses will be operated from the following places: Mattuthavani Bus Stand - 7.45 a.m., Arapalayam Bus Stand 7.40 a.m., Periyar Bus Stand 7.45 a.m., Railway Station 7.50 a.m., Melur Bus Stand 8 a.m. and from Alagarkoil four buses will ply every 15 minutes between 8 a.m. and 9.30 a.m., according to a college press release.

About 700 students are expected to appear for the examination.

For devotees who are unable to witness the celestial wedding of Goddess Meenakshi with Lord Sundareswarar on Sunday and other proceedings of the ongoing Chithirai festival, All India Radio plans to relay the proceedings of the events.

It will relay a running commentary of the celestial wedding on Sunday from 10.30 a.m., a feature on car festival from 8.45 a.m. on Monday, on `ethir sevai' at 8.45 a.m. on Tuesday and the entry of Lord Kallazhagar into the Vaigai river at 7.30, 8.45 and 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Water level

The water level in the Periyar dam stood at 109.50 feet (136 feet) with an inflow of 13 cusecs and a discharge of 190 cusecs.

The level in the Vaigai dam was 33.23 feet (71 feet) with an inflow of 195 cusecs and a discharge of 41 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 924 mcft.

Vaigai dam recorded 6 mm of rainfall followed by Manjalar dam 5 and Melur 3.2 mm.
