20 injured as protesters clash with police

Srinagar: Twenty persons, including five scribes, were injured as stone-pelting youths, protesting alleged demolition of a mosque inside the historic Hariparbat Fort here, fought pitched battles with the police.

The scribeswere caught in the crossfire as the police tried repeatedly to disperse the youths, sources said here.

A dozen protesters and three policemen were injured as the police used tear-gas shells and resorted to baton charge to chase away the agitators in the narrow lanes and bylanes of Nowhatta, Gojwara and other adjoining areas, the sources said. — PTI
