Expo on plastic gets under way at HITEX

Showcases new technologies; 270 stalls opened

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday set the ball rolling for Indian Plastics Exhibition (IPLEX-07), the biggest-ever expo of the plastic manufacturers' industry here.

About 270 manufacturers have set up stalls at the HITEX Exhibition Centre.

As Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, Minister for Major Industries J. Geeta Reddy, Sabita Indra Reddy (Mines) and G. Surya Rao (Small Scale Industries) and representatives of the industry watched, Dr. Reddy declared open the four-day IPLEX-07.

Arvind Mehta, president, PlastIndia Foundation made a presentation on the opportunities in the sector and the global trends.

On the national scenario, the industry suffered from lack of uniform rates of taxation with different States having different rates, lack of availability of uninterrupted power and and poor availability of raw materials, according to the speakers,

At least half of the stalls put up were those by units involved in manufacture of machinery required and showcased new technology, raw materials and modern processes.

Among the initiatives taken by the industry, especially the Indian Centre for Plastics and Environment, was educating interested people and visitors to the exhibition on proper use of plastics and need to contribute to environmental cleanliness.
