Kingfisher directed to pay compensation to student

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Third Additional Bangalore Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has asked Kingfisher to pay Rs. 5,000 as compensation to a student who missed his examination following the delayed departure of one of the airline's Bangalore-bound flights.

Rahul Kejriwal, a student of Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College, had gone to Ahmedabad to attend a religious ceremony on December 12, 2006. He left for New Delhi to catch a fight to Bangalore where he was to write the "Project management" paper of the BBM fifth semester examination on December 13 at 2 p.m. In Delhi, flights were getting delayed because of fog. He enquired with the Kingfisher Airlines and booked a ticket for the flight leaving at 10.30 a.m. He was asked to board the fight at 11.30 a.m., but the fight left only at 1.30 p.m. He missed his examination as the flight reached Bangalore at 4.15 p.m.

In his complaint, Mr. Kejriwal said Kingfisher's negligence in alerting him about the delay had affected his career. He claimed a compensation of Rs. 12 lakh.

Kingfisher chairman Vijay Mallya remained absent despite being served with a notice by the consumer forum.
