BANGALORE: Students and staff of Kristu Jayanti College at Kothanur on Friday took out a silent rally against the pathetic condition of Hennur-Kothanur Road following the death of a student of the college on Wednesday. The rally was taken out from the college premises to Hennur Road. The students held aloft placards urging the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) to improve the road for smooth movement of traffic. A release said that during the last few months, many students and the general public had met with accidents, some which had been fatal. Among those who met with accidents on the road, the release said, four were students of the college. The recent case was the death of 22-year-old Jeeson Joseph, a final year M.B.A. student of the college. They also submitted a memorandum to the BMRDA officials urging them to improve the Hennur-Kothanur Road. Students said the Hennur-Kothanur Road was a major link road to the international airport at Devanahalli and had also been designated as a State highway. Despite several pleas to the administration, the condition of the road had not improved, causing anxiety and fear among the road-users, they added. Further, they said that the road was also important for the residents of over 15 villages in Bangalore North and an estimated 20,000 commuters used the road daily.
