Bangalore: The 89 per cent Reddamma, daughter of a construction worker, secured in the SSLC examination is sure to spur her to great heights.

Hailing from Gulbarga, she is a student of Ashraya Neelbagh School at Rayalpada in Kolar district.

She wants to be a software engineer, and English is her favourite subject.

The girl said she used to study for eight hours a day and did not take tuition.

"My family never forced me to quit studies," she told The Hindu.

JSS College in Mysore is her first preference for pursuing her education. If not a software engineer, she would like to be a singer.

The 15-year-old girl has been studying at the school for seven years.

Her father, Sabanna, works at a construction site in Bangalore. Her mother is a housewife.

The girl has an elder sister, who works with her father at the construction site, and three younger sisters who study in the same school.

"My school is responsible for what I am today," said Reddamma, expressing her gratitude to the institution.

The school is run by a National Child Welfare Award winning NGO `Ashraya,' and its sponsors are from Australia, Italy, Dubai and India.

The school has recorded cent per cent result in the SSLC examination this year, with all 14 students coming out with flying colours.

"Apart from main course studies, the school has taught us singing, dance, tailoring and carpentry," says Reddamma.

"I don't want my daughter to suffer because of our poverty. My wife and I have never forced my daughters to do anything against their will. I want her to decide on her future," Mr. Sabanna says and thanks god for blessing his daughter.

"Ashraya will counsel Reddamma on what she has to do," says Shanthi, an Ashraya worker in Bangalore.
