Bonus Act to be amended

To enhance ceiling for workers

NEW DELHI: The Indian Labour Conference on Saturday agreed to amendment of the Payment of Bonus Act (1965) to increase the bonus limit for the workers. An amendment bill to this effect will shortly be introduced in Parliament, Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes said here.

Briefing reporters on the outcome of the two-day conference, Mr. Fernandes said that while the employers wanted the bonus limit enhanced to Rs.7,500, the employees wanted it to be raised to Rs.10,000. The ultimate decision would be taken by the Ministry shortly, the Minister said.

The participants also agreed that the Act should be applicable to contract workers engaged in construction.
