Schemes worth 64 crore cleared

Staff Reporter

Every village to get 10 lakh more for water, power supply

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Rural Development Board cleared 133 schemes worth Rs. 64 crore at its first meeting in this financial year convened by Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan on Friday. The meeting was attended by all MLAs from Outer Delhi.

After the meeting, Mr. Chauhan said among the schemes cleared were for construction and maintenance of roads, ponds, community centres and crematoria in the villages. Stating that financial clearance for these schemes would be received soon, the Minister said the Rural Development Board had approved Rs. 107 crore for the financial year 2006-07. In this financial year, he said, the amount had been raised to Rs. 125 crore.

The Minister said every village would now be provided with an additional Rs. 10 lakh for improving water and electricity supply and a fortnightly meeting of the Board would be held to keep track of the works.

Sewage system

Mr. Chauhan said the issue of having a sewage system for all the 189 villages of Delhi was also discussed.

The consultant of the Delhi Jal Board had submitted his study report and under the first phase the work of laying sewer lines in 70 villages would be completed by June. Then in the second phase, sewage treatment plants would be installed at places where the sewer lines could not be laid.

Encroachments

During the meeting, some Board members expressed concern over large-scale encroachment on Gram Sabha land. The Board then resolved that this land would be cleared of encroachments and demarcated and enclosed within a boundary wall.

The BJP MLA from Saket, Vijay Jolly, raised the issue of only one of the four suggested projects from his area being taken up by the Board for implementation since they were approved in January this year.
