KHAMMAM: D. Raja, national Secretary of the Communist Party of India, on Saturday demanded a CBI probe into the fake encounters in Gujarat. Talking to mediapersons here, he said that the killings in fake encounters were a serious issue posing threat to the democratic system in the country. He said that the BJP Government in that state could not absolve of its responsibility for the fake encounter killings. Three top police officers charged with the fake encounters were arrested, he said. The CPI leader said that the human trafficking racket had sullied the image of the parliamentary democracy. It had grave implications for the functioning of the system and it was also a case for thorough enquiry and serious action.
Quota
On the stay on 27 per cent reservations in admission of the OBCs to the elite educational institutions, he said that Parliament must intervene effectively if the Government failed to get the stay of the apex court vacated. The supremacy of Parliament must be up held. Mr Raja said the inflationary trends had its impact on the common man. The Government had got the responsibility to moderate the prices. The Finance Minister's pronunciations could hardly make any impact. The farmers' distress was continuing thanks to the spiraling prices. Very serious situation was prevailing in the country. The problem of unemployment was assuming serious proportions and the youth were not able to see a bright future for themselves. It was high time for the Congress to go in for introspection. Otherwise the consequences would be serious, he said.
