ANANTAPUR: The police busted an inter-State fake currency note racket here on Saturday and arrested nine members of the gang. They also seized fake currency of Rs. 4.05 lakhs in the denomination of 1,000 and 500, genuine notes of Rs. 35,000 and two cell phones from them.

Anantapur DSP G.S. Karunkar told newspersons that four other members of the gang were still at large. One of them, Raju from Kerala was stated to be the kingpin, he said.

Exchange method

The gang had exchanged fake currency worth Rs. 2 lakhs with Rs. 1 lakh genuine currency with one Nagaraju of Chilakaluripeta in Guntur district, and Rs. 3.5 lakh fake currency for Rs. 1.2 lakhs genuine notes with Narendra Reddy of Kurnool.

The racket was busted when Ramakrishna suspected that his brokers would be caught by the police in Hindupur and shifted his activity to Anantapur.

On specific information CCS Inspector A. Srinivasulu nabbed the notorious gang near the Government Junior College.

The arrested included B. Ramakrishna alias Swamy of Hindupur, Suryanarayana of Bagepalli, Mohd. Rafi of Hooty, N. Ramesh and M. Nagaraju of Hindupur, Chandra Reddy and P. Nagaraju of Parigi, Sadiq Vali of Garladinne and V. Ramesh of Penukonda. Ishaq, Gangadhar, Murali and Rajan were at large.
