Bank officers seek fixed hours of duty

AIBOA State conference concludes

  • Bankmen seek an end to outsourcing
  • Meet highlights hardships faced by bank officers

KOZHIKODE: Fixed hours of duty and an end to outsourcing were among the demands raised at the eighth State convention of the All-India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) that concluded in Kozhikode on Sunday.

Resolutions highlighting hardships facing bank officers because of long hours of duty were adopted at the convention and a demand made to fix duty hours. AIBOA has demanded that the duty hours for officers be fixed at seven-and-a-half hours.

Other resolutions adopted at the meeting demanded one more chance for the employees to opt for pension; restoration of provision for appointment of dependents of employees who died in harness and sanctioning of pension for employees of Gramin Banks.

In the matter of pension, the AIBOA decided to seek the adoption of the present pension scheme for all. It also would press for giving another option to bank men to all bank employees to accept the pension scheme.

AlBOA, the second largest officers' organisation of bankmen in the country, had been repeatedly pointing out that since banks had not seen any major recruitments in recent years the work pressure on bank officers had increased considerably. In the absence of adequate recruitments, customer service had been adversely affected.
