SHEFFIELD: Matthew Stevens set up a quarterfinal against Shaun Murphy with a 13-9 win over Northern Ireland's Mark Allen at the World snooker championships here on Saturday. The world No. 14, who lost to Murphy in the 2005 final, secured the four frames he needed for victory after resuming at 9-7. "Every quarterfinal match is very tough but I think Shaun's improved a lot since the 2005 final," Welshman Stevens told reporters. Scotland's Stephen Maguire joined Stevens in the quarterfinals with a 13-8 victory over Joe Swail. The results: Stephen Maguire (Sco) bt Joe Swail (Eng) 13-8; Matthew Stevens (Wal) bt Mark Allen (NIrl) 13-9. — Agencies
