e-challan system

The city police are all set to introduce e-challan system in the city to penalise the motorists, who jump the signals at a junction or just zoom ahead on the road without wearing helmets. As a law-abiding citizen of this country, I welcome the Police Department's efforts to bring the irregular traffic under control. But, I have a genuine doubt regarding the implementation of the new project. What would be the fate of a person, who is forced to pay the fine if a police officer or a constable reads the registration number mistakenly? In addition, the motorists could also be victims of targets set to the field staff in the police department.

A growing menace

Eve-teasing menace, now-a-days, is growing on a faster pace in Machilipatnam. It is not just vagabonds, who are resorting to the eve teasing, but the college students also. It is pertinent to narrate an experience of my own here. The college students tried to overpower me when I tried to prevent them from heckle and jeer at the girls a couple of days ago. Thanks to the intervention of some elderly people, they fled the scene. I sincerely request the police authorities to take necessary action in this regard.

Great injustice

It is great injustice on the part of the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to eliminate South Indian dishes like Idli, Vada and Dosa from its menu even though these refreshments are highly liked and favoured by large number of passengers. The IRCTC is requested to include the South Indian dishes in its menu for the benefit of South Indian passengers.

Job racket

It is disturbing to note that an ex-defence employee, and two employees, who were suspended from CRPF, was among the job racket that was busted by the city police a couple of days ago. The people have high esteem for the defence personnel and also armed forces. Secondly, the trio were cheating gullible unemployed youth promising that they would help them in securing jobs in defence and CRPF forces. The defence and CRPF authorities should publicise that the recruitment into their organisations would not be done through placement agencies.

Exempt old buildings

Ever since fire broke out at Agri Gold office killing two persons at Bandar Road, there is an enormous discussion over the fire fighting equipment that need to be installed at high-rise buildings. While the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials have categorically stated that fire fighting equipment was mandatory for high rise buildings, the welfare associations have said a blunt `no'. But, in my view, the welfare associations should rethink over the stand as their safety was involved in the issue. On the other hand, the VMC should also exempt the oldest apartments.
