HYDERABAD: State BJP leaders on Sunday accepted Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah's offer for a debate on the Government's steps to protect the State interests in the Babli project row with Maharashtra. At a press conference here, party leaders S.V. Seshagiri Rao, N.V.S.S. Prabhakar and N. Ramchandra Rao criticised Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Mr. Lakshmaiah for their remarks in the wake of the Supreme Court's direction on the project. They said that their concern was not limited to Babli alone but the Sriramsagar project ayacut. Maharashtra was utilising more than its share of Godavari water, they alleged. They urged the Government to publish a white paper on the projects taken up across the Godavari by Maharashtra.
