Man, grandchild found murdered

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: A 70-year-old man, Varghese, and his seven-year-old granddaughter, Christie, were found dead inside a room of their house at Pidavoor, near Pathanapuram, on Sunday evening. The Police suspect it to be a double murder for gain. The house was under renovation and the masons were migrant labourers from Tamil Nadu. Being Sunday there was no work.

The police suspect that by 12 noon, a gang had gained entry into the house. At that time only Varghese and Christie were there. Christie's father, a pastor, had gone out with other members of the family for Sunday service. Kollam Dy.SP. T. Reghunathan Nair, said that Varghese and Christie were brutally beaten up. After conducting an inquest, the bodies were taken to Punalur Government Hospital for an autopsy. The Pathanapuram police have registered a case and are investigating.
