BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has collected a record sum of Rs. 348 crore as property tax during the financial year 2006-2007, registering a growth of 36 per cent over the previous year. Following this, the BBMP has now set a target of collecting Rs. 610 crore from eight zones for 2007-2008. A release said that property tax collection recorded an increase of Rs. 90 crore from the last year's Rs. 258 crore. The record collection was achieved against a target of Rs. 400 crore fixed for 2006-2007.
Revenue survey
The BBMP also launched a comprehensive revenue survey in all the zones between August 2006 and October 2006, which involved door-to-door visits by revenue officials to identify property owners who had evaded property tax or those property that were under assessed. This also helped in raising the revenue, it added.
