Atwal finishes tied 23rd

Glen Allen: Arjun Atwal shot five birdies and four bogeys en route to a closing one-under 71 for a tied 23rd finish in the Henrico County Open of the PGA Nationwide Tour. The Orlando-based Indian signed off with a total of seven-under 281.

This year Atwal has played four events on the PGA Tour and missed three cuts. However, he has so far made the cut in all three starts on Nationwide, where his best was a sixth spot finish at Livermore Wine Country Championships last month.

Australian Nick Flanagan (70) won the title with a total of 275.

Chopra in 39th place

Indian-born Swede Daniel Chopra returned an improved three-under 67 in the final round to sign off tied 39th in the Byron Nelson Championships at Irving (Texas) on Sunday.

Chopra, who had dropped to the tied 56th position after carding 73 in the third round, sank in four birdies against a lone bogey to finish with a total of two-under 286.

Of the 13 starts, he has made the cut in nine but has had only one top-10, an eighth place at Honda Classic, finish so far.

Meanwhile, American Scott Verplank took the title with a tournament total of 13-under 267 that helped him finish a shot ahead of England's Luke Donald.

Verplank, who knew Nelson for 26 years before the latter passed away seven months ago, came from behind to win the title.

Randhawa finishes second

It was a case of so near yet so far for Jyoti Randhawa, who came within a whisker of his maiden European Tour win before settling for a second place finish at the two million euro Open de Espana.

The Indian star, who has won six times in Asia and once in Japan, played brilliantly for the last three rounds with cards of 65, 66 and 67 but found himself one short of the title, as Charl Schwartzel of South Africa took first place with a final round of 67 that gave him a total of 16-under 272 despite a finishing bogey. — Agencies
