New Chief Secretary for Maharashtra

MUMBAI:
Johny Joseph, a 1972 batch IAS officer, has taken over as Chief Secretary of Maharashtra. Mr Joseph, who was Mumbai's Municipal Commissioner, succeeds D.K. Shankaran.
Thiruvananthapuram born Mr. Joseph is a mechanical engineer and did his B.Sc. in engineering from Kerala University.
He started out as Assistant Collector, Jalgaon, and went on to become Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Steel and Deputy Director General, AIR. In Maharashtra, he was Secretary, Relief and Rehabilitation, and project director of the Earthquake rehabilitation programme apart from holding charge as Secretary, Revenue.
After formally taking over from Mr. Shankaran, Mr. Joseph told reporters that his main priorities were addressing power shortage, the agrarian crisis and water issues.
