Panchayat chiefs get Central award

KOZHIKODE: Presidents of 25 grama panchayats in the district who have been selected for the Nirmal Grama Puraskaram will receive the award at a programme at the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi on May 4.

President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will present the awards instituted by the Union Rural Development Ministry.

The prize-winning group from the district was led by team leader ADC D. Johnson, besides district panchayat president K.P. Kunahmmedkutty, vice-president V. Kunhali, project director V.V. Ramachandran among others.

The following are the panchayats and presidents who have been selected for the award.

Nanmanda (Mohandas Vallath); Kakkur (V. Kalyanikutty); Narikunni (M.P. Rukiya); Elathur (V.K. Mohandas); Thalakulathur (P.K. Satyan); Kakkodi (M.A. Siraj); Edacheri (V. Kunhikannan); Villiappalli (R. Balaram); Koorachund (M.M. Zachariah); Thiruvambadi (Jolly Joseph Kottarathil); Madavoor (Baby Vasan); Puthupadi (Girish John); Peruvayal (R. Subramanian); Mavoor (Balakrishnan); Kodencherry (Annie John); Karassery (V.K. Vinod); Karuvatoor (P. Appukuttan); Ramanatukara (M.K. Geeta); Arikulam (P. Gitadevi); Azhiyur (A.T. Sreedharan ); Eramala (N. Venu); Nadapuram (Soopy Narikkatiri); Kavilumpara (Cicily Karimbacheri); Kayakkodi (Balan); Kuttiadi (K.P. Chandri); and Koothali (K. Narayanan).
