PERFECT PRINT: An employee of Seiko Epson displays copies of large and small picture books, printed by Epson's printers at the company's advanced technology exhibition in Tokyo recently. The company has developed next generation inkjet printer head using micro piezo technology.
CHENNAI: Digital imaging solution provider Seiko Epson Corporation has launched a thin-film piezo element in printers. The installation of next-generation micro piezo print heads in printers and other devices will make it possible to design speedier and more compact inkjet equipment than ever before. "We hope to see the benefit of the new inkjet print head in printers available in India sometime in the near future," said Tushad Talati, Deputy General Manager and Head of Brand and Communication at Epson India. "Volume production of next-generation micro piezo print heads that feature these elements will be available in the market soon," he added. Compared to other inkjet systems, micro piezo technology offers superior ink ejection performance, compati- bility with a wide variety of inks, and durability. Epson is hoping to grow from a turnover of Rs. 267 crore to Rs. 300 crore this fiscal. The new technology developments will be a key driver to ensure this. According to company officials, a few other products being launched in Japan this year may also be considered for the India market. Another area where Epson is developing products is for `print-on-demand', a segment showing tremendous potential in India. "We hope to have some products for the Indian market as well in the near future featuring our micro piezo inkjet technology in this segment," he added.
Core technology
Epson will focus on micro piezo technology as one of its core technologies. By continuing to develop micro piezo technology, Epson feels it will be able to expand its usage potential beyond consumer applications to encompass other areas such as business and industry.
