Rallies mark May Day in State

CHENNAI:
Rallies, hoisting of flags and distribution of grant to indigent workers marked the May Day celebrations in the State on Tuesday.
Members of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam took out a rally from the Government Guesthouse to the May Day Park. Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin, Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasami and Labour Progressive Federation president C. Kuppusami participated in the rally. Later, they laid wreaths at the memorial in the park.
The All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam distributed Rs. 25,000 each to 46 indigent workers in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, who were members of the Anna Thozhilsanga Peravai.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M. Krishnasswamy hoisted the party's union flag at the INTUC office here. Addressing a meeting, he said the United Progressive Alliance Government would always stand by workers.
Communist Party of India leader C. Mahendran and A.M. Gopu addressed party workers in the party office. The Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Pattali Makkal Katchi and the Puthiya Tamizhagam organised functions.
