JIPMER Employees Union plea to Centre

Puducherry: The JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research) Employees Union has called upon the Centre to drop its plan to convert the 40-year-old institute into an autonomous body.

Addressing a meeting as part of the May Day celebrations organised by the union here on Tuesday, president of the union S. Datchanamoorthy said the status quo on administration of JIPMER by Directorate-General of Health Services, New Delhi, should continue.

A release from the union said the meeting was chaired by the Deputy Secretary of the Central Health Employees Federation M. Balasubramanian.

The meeting also made a plea that the status of JIPMER, which had been rendering free health care services to the poor, should not be disturbed.
