Kaushik, Meenu Priya win titles

Madurai: S. Kaushik of TCA (Chennai), with nine points, won the State under-11 chess championship, organised by Madurai District Chess Association, at Velammal Matriculation School, Madurai, on Tuesday.

He pipped top seed S.K. Somasundaram (Salem), who also finished with nine points, on better progressive score. S.E. Meenu Priya of Madurai won the girls' title.

BSNL- S. Rly final

At Dindigul, Defending champion BSNL (Chennai) and Southern Railway (Chennai) will clash for the title in the Cauvery Ammal memorial trophy State-level basketball tournament.

Easy for Blues FC

At Karaikudi, Blues FC thrashed Dr. Ambedkar FC (Erode) 6-1 and entered the pre-quarterfinals of the 24th annual Champion Club football tournament for the Universal Trophy at the Krishna Stadium, Velangudi, on Tuesday.

Velmurugan (11th min), Periannan (22nd), Ganeshkumar (48th, 75th), Selvam (57th, 77th) scored for the winner while Gopala Krishnan reduced the margin in the 48th minute.

Other result: Solar FC, Nilakottai bt 4-2 Nagalkeni FC, Kanchipuram.

SAI Hostel posts win

SAI Hostel (Thalassery) bounced back from a one-set deficit to oust Sports Division (Kannur) 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20 in a round robin women's league of the CDVA Golden Jubilee Classic Polo All India volleyball tournament at the Nanjappa HSS grounds at Tirupur on Tuesday.

The results:

Men: BPCL (Kochi) bt Punjab Police 25-18, 25-13, 29-31, 25-19.

Women: SAI (Thalassery) bt Sports Division (Kannur) 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20. Monday results: Western Rly bt S. Rly 25-21, 25-18, 25-14; Central Rly bt Golden Jubilee Team (Cbe) 25-8, 25-19, 25-9.

Coaching camp
