Parties, unions celebrate May Day

    VIJAYAWADA: Political parties and trade unions celebrated May Day on a grand scale in the city on Tuesday. Activists of the Krishna district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) hoisted the red flag at Tarimela Nagireddy memorial at New Giripuram centre.

    New fiscal policy flayed

    Party activist M. Bhargava Sri criticised the new economic policies that, he said, were aimed at reducing job security and other benefits of employees.

    He called upon the working class to launch a fight against imperialism. Party leaders T. Purnachandra Rao, P. Venkateswara Rao and others were present.

    Singh Nagar zone of the CPI (M) celebrated May Day at Sundarayya Nagar. Over 300 activists took out a rally from Sundarayya Nagar to Dabakotlu centre. Party's State committee member Ch. Babu Rao participated in the celebrations.

    President of the Andhra Pradesh Medical and Sales Representatives' Union Chand Basha hoisted the red flag at the union's office at Sitarampuram.

    Union's State assistant secretary Vedantam Srinivas said that the medical representatives would launch nation-wide movement soon demanding eight working hours a day..

    Members of the Insurance Corporation Employees' Union celebrated May Day at LIC's Jeevan Krishna building. City secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions R. Ajay Kumar was the chief guest.
