AHMEDABAD: The police remand for all the three senior IPS cadre police officers arrested in connection with the alleged Sohrabuddin fake encounter, has been extended by five more days till May 5. The three officers, the deputy inspector general of police, D. G. Vanjhara, the superintendent of police, Rajkumar Pandian, and the Rajasthan cadre police superintendent, M. N. Dinesh Kumar, were produced before the Ahmedabad metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday when their remand was further extended. The three officers were earlier remanded to seven days police custody after their arrest on April 24. The police had demanded 10 days remand but the court granted only five days. Outside the court, a large number of people, claimed to be "supporters of Vanjhara," staged a demonstration and shouted slogans demanding that the arrested police officers be released immediately. They claimed that even if the encounter was a "fake" one, the police officers did a "patriotic job" by killing a "terrorist, an enemy of the nation."
