LUCKNOW: A Chief Development Officer in Uttar Pradesh has been placed under suspension for violating the model code of conduct. The suspension order against H.S. Chaturvedi, CDO of Kushinagar, was issued by the Election Commission on Tuesday. A departmental inquiry was also ordered by the poll panel. Additional Chief Electoral Officer Mrityunjay Kumar Narain told journalists that the officer was suspended following complaints of releasing money to gram panchayats after the announcement of the election schedule on February 21. The model code of conduct was enforced the same day. Mr. Narain said the Kushinagar district magistrate conducted the inquiry. The Commission also took a strong view of the alleged misconduct of Bahraich election observer Arvind Kumar. Elections in Bahraich were held in the fourth phase on April 23. Mr. Kumar was reportedly found in a intoxicated state and snatched the carbine of a security personnel after the completion of polling. Following a complaint to the Commission, an FIR was lodged against the officer in Bahraich on Monday and he was asked to leave the city.
