VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters (Andhra Pradesh) commenced a month-long community interaction programme on Tuesday. The programme was initiated to educate fishermen community against fishing near offshore drilling areas, prohibited areas, safety measures at sea, disaster preparedness and mitigation of losses due to cyclones. The programme is being organised in coordination with local administration, various fisheries departments and NGOs and would cover all coastal villages in the State. Deputy Inspector General and Commander ICG (District headquarters) D.B. Prasad said that the programme would also focus on creating awareness about the change of the toll-free number 1718 to the subsidised charge number 155211, women and child health, family planning, environment concerns, government welfare schemes and conservation of marine species. The district-wise programme schedule is as follows: Srikakulam May 1 to 4, Vizianagaram 5, Visakhapatnam 6 to 9, East Godavari 10 to 13, West Godavari 14, Krishna 15 to 18, Guntur 19 to 22, Prakasam 23 to 26 and Nellore 27 to 30.
