The world's largest matrimonial services provider, Shaadi.com is associating itself with the Delhi Foundation of Deaf Women (DFDW) to extend support for its "Pranay Milan Sammelan-2007" -- a unique annual "swayamwar" for the hearing-impaired. The "Pranay Milan Sammelan", which provides a platform to all hearing-impaired boys and girls to find their ideal life partner, will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral in the Capital on Wednesday. DFDW chief executive Snigdha Sharma says this year the Sammelan will see participation of over 60 boys and girls from Rajasthan, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and other States of South India. "We also host a Miss India Silent Beauty Queen and Princess contest and a sports national talent search for hearing-impaired persons. We also have vocational training centre for deaf women," adds Ms. Sharma. Since 1991, DFDW has been providing matrimonial assistance to the deaf. Throughout the year it receives matrimonial forms along with the photographs and bio-data of the applicants from every nook and corner of the country. Once in a year a get-together of all the applicants is organised. A record is maintained of all the applicants and every year a sammelan is organised. The programme enables young boys and girls to meet and interact. Accompanied by their guardians, the candidates get a chance to communicate with the others through speech or sign language. -- Madhur Tankha
