SUPER KID: Kavan Aadim Bhavin with the President
For 11-year-old Nat Geo Junior Hunt winner Kavan Aadim Bhavin, calling on President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the Capital this past week was a dream come true. This student of Delhi Public School Ahmedabad, who was adjudged India's super kid in National Geographic Channel's quest for the country's super child, not only had a face-to-face meeting with Dr. Kalam but also a freewheeling conversation with him. Kavan and three other finalists reached the finale after a host of rounds designed to test the children's abilities based on the multiple intelligence theory in alignment with the channel's `Think again' approach. The interactive meeting saw Kavan throwing a lot of queries at the President and receiving invaluable tips on one's attitude towards life. Dr. Kalam also told him that even if one doesn't reach where one wants to be, one's thoughts must always soar. No one can stop you from achieving your goals if you chase your dreams honestly, the President said. Kavan also presented to Dr. Kalam a card especially made by him and his brother during the Gujarat earthquake to generate funds for relief and rehabilitation of victims. "I asked the President what he did during his free time. Dr. Kalam told me that he writes poetry and even recited one of his. He also told me his mantra for success that states dreams transform into thoughts and thoughts result into action," said Kavan. Speaking about the contest, National Geographic channel's India vice-president (marketing) Rajesh Sheshadri said: "Nat Geo Junior Hunt endeavoured to stimulate the intellect of our young audiences to re-think and learn more about the world they live in while enjoying the experience. I would like to thank President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam for helping us fulfil Kavan's dream to meet him and for inspiring him to aim high and keep his dreams alive". Kavan, the first ever Nat Geo Junior host, will soon be hosting the Nat Geo Junior Band on the TV channel. -- Madhur Tankha
