Court to decide on Soren's plea on May 17

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed its Registry to compile all the documents related to former Union Minister Shibu Soren's appeal against his conviction in the Shashinath Jha murder case of May 22, 1994, so that it could take it up for hearing arguments without any further delay. A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice R.S. Sodhi and Justice H.R. Malhotra directed the Registry to compile the documents within two weeks. The Bench later fixed May 17 as the date for passing directions on taking up the appeal for hearing.

The appeal was earlier before another Division Bench of the Court. It came to the Bench of Mr. Justice Sodhi and Mr. Justice Malhotra following a change of roster.

A Delhi court had last December awarded life imprisonment to Soren and four others in the case. The four are Nand Kishore, Ajay Mehta alias Dilip, Pashupati Nath Mehta alias Posho and Shailendra Bhattacharya.
