BSNL slashes security deposit

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BSNL Mobile Services, Kerala, has reduced the security deposit for all new post-paid connection with effect from May 1. The security deposit for local call has been reduced from Rs.1,000 to Rs.500; for STD from Rs.2,000 to Rs.1,000 and for ISD from Rs.3,000 to Rs.2,000. The General Manager, BSNL Mobile Services, Kerala circle, said the reduction applied only to new connections and no refund of security deposit would be made for existing connections. The BSNL would provide a special ring back tone for international out-roamers with message - "I am on International Roaming" - . The subscriber can choose this facility by sending an SMS BT 190001 for English and BT 190002 for Hindi to 567. - Staff Reporter

Specialist doctors to be appointed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Under the Arogyakeralam scheme, retired specialist doctors and those retiring by June 30 from Government service will be appointed on a contract basis with honorarium of Rs.25,000 per month. As per the April 25 notification, a walk-in interview will be held at 11 a.m. on May 4, at the Conference Hall of NRHM Office, Directorate of Health Services, Thiruvananthapuram - 695 035. Those who wish to participate in the interview should give their choice of hospitals where they are ready to render their service.

Train rescheduled

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram-Gorakhpur Raptisagar Express (Train Number 2512), scheduled to leave Thiruvananthapuram Central at 5.20 a.m. Wednesday will leave Thiruvananthapuram Central at 7.30 a.m. on the same day due to late running of the pairing train. - Staff Reporter

Cocofest 2007

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cocofest 2007, being organised by the Coconut Development Board here from May 3 to 6, will be inaugurated at the Kanakakunnu Palace grounds by Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan. Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh will preside. Around 125 producers of coconut products, research institutions, Government agencies, coconut cultivators, scientists, development workers, technical experts and machinery makers will participate in the show. An exhibition on the possibilities of coconut will be conducted as part of the fest.

Divine Retreat Centre: cases filed

THRISSUR: The Koratti police on Monday said that the special police team investigating alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Divine Retreat Centre at Chalakudy had registered cases against 10 persons, including George Panakkal, director of the centre, and Mathew Thadathil, on April 28. - Staff Reporter

NGO Union office-bearers

Kozhikode: K.P. Mary and K. Rajendran were elected president and general secretary respectively of the Kerala NGO Union at its 44th State Conference here. K. Saseendran, T.P. Madhavan, P.H.M. Ismail (vice-presidents); K. Mohanan, P.V. Rathnakaran and B. Anandakuttan (secretaries); and S. Sreekantesan (treasurer) are the other office-bearers. Secretariat members and State committee members were also elected at the four-day conference, which will conclude on Thursday.

Child census

PATHANAMTHITTA: Child Census-2007, a child-tracking programme aimed at ensuring quality education for all children, will be held from May 2 to 4. Collector Ashok Kumar Singh said the departments of Local Administration, General Education, Social Welfare and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan would jointly carry out the programme. The mission is to ensure free quality higher secondary education for all children. The report will be submitted to the authorities on May 9. — Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Srimad Bhagavtha Saptaha Yajnam and the pushpabhishekom at Sree Parthasarathy Temple at Aranmula will be held from May 7 to 13. The saptaha yajnam will begin with tantri Rakesh Narayanan Bhattathiri lighting the ceremonial lamp at 7 a.m. on May 7. The kalabhabhishekom will be held at 11.30 a.m. on May 13. The pushpabhishekom will be held at 8 p.m. The yajnam and the pushpabhishekom will conclude with the Garudavahanam procession at 8.30 p.m. — Staff Reporter
