DEHRA DUN: A regional Passport Office for Uttarakhand will become functional here by this month-end. Announcing this on Tuesday, Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri told The Hindu that the Central Government had cleared the proposal and necessary steps were being taken to establish the passport office. Describing the move as a major leap towards easier availability of passports to the people of the State, Mr. Khanduri urged the youth and other stakeholders to avail of the facility to boost their career and business opportunities. "Uttarakhand is developing as a hub for IT and technical manpower as well as an area of excellence in various fields. All the people have to do is harness the opportunities provided by the Government and private sector through dedicated efforts and a strong will to succeed in life," he said, adding that the Government was preparing a road map for dynamic all-round growth through participation of all sections of society. Referring to his recent talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Central leaders, Mr. Khanduri said he had received a very positive response from all and hoped to carry on his task with zeal and speed over the next five years. The Chief Minister, who has been touring remote areas of the State over the past few weeks, said, "We are trying to bring about a change in the mindset of the public as well as the bureaucrats and the results will be there to see after some time."
