Free sand for `Indiramma'

HYDERABAD:
The State Government has decided to supply sand free of cost and gravel at less rate for the weaker sections housing under the Indiramma programme. Incidentally, last month the Government transferred the subject of sand from the Panchayat Raj to the Mines and Geology Department. Mines and Geology Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy told a news conference here on Tuesday that the department was yet to frame the guidelines for the public auction of sand.
She said Andhra Pradesh topped in revenue earnings from mines the last financial year at Rs. 1,363 crore. With a 27 per cent growth rate in revenue, the State was ahead Rajasthan in 2006-07. Its collections could have been much higher but for the Supreme Court staying the recovery of the mineral cess on Mineral Bearing Lands of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and the iron ore sector.
