HYDERABAD: A. Ravindra Babu, RDO, Peddapalli, in Karimnagar district has been suspended for indulging in activities prejudicial to the interests of the State and public. An order issued by the Government here on Tuesday said that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against Mr. Babu. - Special Correspondent

`Lovers' end lives

Sangareddy: Two lovers committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Akkanapet station on Tuesday. The two were identified as R. Kavitha (22) and Anji (28) of Bagirthipalli in Nizamabad district. They allegedly ended lives as their parents opposed their affair. . — Staff Reporter

Ryot commits suicide

KURNOOL: A farmer K. Ramakrishna (48) committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Rudravaram, near here, on Tuesday. He incurred losses in crop and had to cede some land for the Hundri-Neeva canal. — Special Correspondent

Three idols seized

KADAPA: The Badvel police arrested two persons — Ravi nad Obulesu — near P.P. Kunta in Badvel mandal and recovered three panchaloha idols of Sri Rama, Sita and Lakshmana, valued at Rs. 3.50 lakhs. The idols were stolen from Rama temple in Gattupalle in Gopavaram mandal. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Potti Sriramulu Telugu University is extending financial assistance to writers for getting their books printed on subjects like Telugu language, culture, literature and history. Plea to devotees

HYDERABAD: The Tirumala Tirupati Samrakshana Samithi has welcomed the Government's decision to issue an ordinance banning propagation of other religions in Tirumala. Samithi's spokesperson S. Lakshmi Devi, however, wanted devotees to continue exerting pressure on the Government for implementing its order. She also wanted the Government to issue orders declaring the seven hills area under Lord's control. - Special Correspondent

File on service rules

HYDERABAD: The file on unified service rules for teachers will be despatched to New Delhi along with a team of teacher-MLCs on May 5 to secure orders of President. Education Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha promised this to a delegation of the Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union. P. Venkat Reddy, president, and B. Mohan Reddy, MLC, quoted him as saying that service rules would be introduced soon. - Special Correspondent

Asthma awareness

KURNOOL: G. Kullayappa, retired professor of chest diseases, conducted an awareness camp in connection with the World Asthma Day here on Tuesday. He explained the significance of this year's theme - `You can control your asthma' and said if proper care were taken, the quality of life would not be affected. House burgled

KURNOOL: Unidentified persons burgled the house of a retired lecturer at Ramalingeswara Nagar and made away with 30 tolas of gold on Monday night. According to reports, retired lecturer, Triveni, was away when the incident took place. She lodged a complaint with the police. — Special Correspondent

Madanapalle : Chief Whip N. Kirankumar Reddy and TTD Board Chairman Karunakar Reddy visited Tarigonda Vengamamba temple on April 30 at Tarigonda village in connection with Tarigonda Vengamamba Jayanti celebrations. ANANTAPUR: The Teachers' Association of JNTU College of Engineering, Anantapur, has elected the following office-bearers unanimously for 2007-09 period: S.V. Madanapalle: Councillors at the Municipal Council meeting here on Monday alleged misappropriation of funds in the purchase of electrical materials. They asked officials not to pay the bill amount to the contractor, as the material supplied by him was sub-standard. Correspondent

Appointed IFTU general secretary

VIZIANAGARAM: P. Prasad has been appointed State general secretary of the Indian Federation of Trade Unions. Following his elevation, Mr. Prasad will automatically cease to lead the unions of Hoogly Jute Mills in the district, according to IFTU press release. - Correspondent

Aid disbursed

Kakinada: Mutha Gopalakrishna, MLA, who is honorary president of the Port Cargo Boats and Steel Barge Workers' Union, disbursed Rs. 66,000 each from union funds to families of the three deceased port workers at a function held at the union office here on Tuesday to mark May Day celebrations. The MLA promised the workers that he would strive for issue of a GO on providing job guarantee to anchorage port workers. - Correspondent

Khammam: Chief Minister Y. S. Raja Sekhar Reddy will take part in Praja Patham programme in Khammam district on Wednesday.
