Read Marx, Lenin, says Jayakanthan
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI
: Novelist and writer D. Jayakanthan on Tuesday appealed to the younger generation to read about Karl Marx and Lenin to know more about Marxism and the "sparks of a Communist".
Speaking at a May Day seminar on "Marxism and Nationalism" organised by the Federation of Indian Trade Unions (FITU) and the United Communist Party of India (UCPI), Mr. Jayakanthan underscored the importance of Marxism.
"One need not become a Communist by reading about Marxism. But I appeal to the younger generation to know more about the role of Marxists and Communists by reading more books on Marx and Lenin", Mr. Jayakanthan explained.
Tracing the history of Marx and Lenin, Mr. Jayakanthan said it was interesting to note how Communists played a significant role in the development of the working class, which led to the overall development of the society.
The State Secretary of the UCPI, M. Sundararajan, regretted that May Day was being observed only as a "remembrance day" and had lost its importance.
