Lorry driver gets six months' jail

BANGALORE: The II City Traffic Court has convicted and sentenced a lorry driver to six months' simple imprisonment and fined him Rs. 4,500 for rash and negligent driving, resulting in a fatal accident.

On November 28, 2005, a lorry rammed a motorcycle on Kanakapura Main Road. Siddamma, riding pillion on the motorcycle, fell on the road and the lorry ran over her, killing her on the spot. The Banashankari traffic police had seized the lorry and arrested the driver.

VCDs seized

The Central Crime Branch staff on Monday raided a shop in Airport police station limits and arrested five people on charges of selling pirated VCDs and DVDs. They seized pirated discs and recording equipment, together estimated at Rs. 6.42 lakh.

The police gave the names of the arrested as V. Ravi (35), Venkatesh (29), Mahesh Kumar (27), Rajesh (20) and Ajay Solanki (19).

Arrested

The Sanjaynagar police have arrested two youths who had allegedly robbed call centre employee Sowmya Prasanna of her gold chain and purse after assaulting her at a petrol outlet.

The arrested were identified as Bharath (22) of Ashwathnagar and Chandrashekar (19) of R.T. Nagar.

Recovered

The Cottonpet police on Monday arrested Govindan (19) of Tamil Nadu on charges of burglary and recovered Rs. 4.70 lakh cash he had stolen from businessman Narpath Kumar's house on Akkipet Main Road on April 26.
