This Day That Age
Calcutta's Mayor, Dr. Triguna Sen, startled Corporation officials on May 1 by revealing that at one period of his career he was one of the city's taxi-drivers. Dr. Sen, apart from being Mayor, is the Rector of Jadavpur University. He was forced to drive a taxi when, on account of his political sympathies during the British regime, he was unable to get a job. The Mayor's revelation came when he refused to accept for his personal use the car which the Corporation keeps for the use of the city's first citizen. He said he could use it for official occasions.
