Answer scripts on CET Cell website

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell of the Government will post all answer scripts of candidates who have appeared for the entrance test on its website.

The entrance test for admission of students for professional courses will be held on May 9.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy said 1.7 lakh students would write the entrance test this year. As many as 84,000 students appeared for the test in 2006.

He said the CET Cell officials would post answer scripts on the website only after three or four days of the examination. This would enable the students to assess their performance in the test.

New colleges

The Minister said the Government would open 119 first grade degree colleges and five engineering colleges for admission of students from the coming academic year (2007-08).

A Government Order has been issued for sanctioning 104 first grade colleges and five engineering colleges. An order will be issued soon for another batch of 15 first grade colleges.

The new government engineering colleges will come up in Hassan, K.R. Pet, Chamarajangar, Ramnagaram and Bellary.

Of the 104 colleges, the highest number of colleges has been sanctioned for Hassan district (11) followed by Belgaum (10), Bangalore Urban and Uttara Kannada (seven each) districts.

Mr. Shankaramurthy said the process for recruitment of lecturers in new colleges would start shortly. The Kushalnagar Polytechnic has been upgraded into an engineering college, he said.
