AFFORDABLE HANDSETS: S. P. Shukla, President, Personal Business, Reliance Communications, displaying the Classic range of handsets in Mumbai on Wednesday.
MUMBAI: Reliance Communications Ltd. (RCL) has unveiled a range of `Classic' mobile handsets with prices starting from Rs. 777. The handsets will be available for a limited period and start with the Classic 202 at Rs. 777, Classic 204 at Rs. 844 and Classic 203 at Rs. 888.
New segment
At a press conference here on Wednesday, S. P. Shukla, President, Personal Business, RCL, said, "through our new Classic range of 16 feature rich handsets, we are confident of extending the benefits of mobility to an entirely new segment of population in the metros, small cities and rural hinterland of India.'' RCL has emerged as the second largest marketing powerhouse for mobile handsets. "In 2006, we sold 12 million handsets and expect to outdo that in the current year,'' Mr. Shukla said. RCL markets handsets through its 1,500 strong exclusive Reliance showrooms and over three lakh retailers serviced by nearly 2,000 distributors. "This attractive price should lead people to buy the new phones instead of opting for second hand instruments.''
